Flávio Luis de Mello received his DSc. in Theory of Computation and Image Processing from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2006), MSc. in Computer Graphics from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2003), Undergraduate degree in Systems Engineering from Military Institute of Engineering (1998).
He developed command and control systems, weapons control systems and autonomous tracking equipment based on artificial intelligence, and implemented secure military messages interchange applications during twelve years as a Brazilian Army officer. He also was responsible for developing expert systems based on machine learning and knowledge reasoning from Mentor Group during fourteen years. He is co-founder of the Center of Excellence on Artificial Intelligence at Brazil for the Intel Corporation Program.
He is co-creator of the MeetYourself, a machine based physical and mental health prediagnoses tool. Professor Mello’s research interests are in theoretical computer science, knowledge representation, Church-Turing thesis and computational theory of mind.
Dr Mello currently is Full Professor at the Electronic and Computer Engineering Department of Polytechnic School at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He is head of the Machine Intelligence and Computing Models Laboratory (IM2C).
