David D. Luxton, Ph.D., M.S., is a nationally recognized expert, consultant, and trainer in suicide prevention, telehealth, and innovative technologies in behavioral healthcare. He is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle and founder of Luxton Labs LLC. Dr. Luxton’s research and writing focus on the development and evaluation of innovative technologies in health care with specializations in artificial intelligence and ethics, telehealth, military and veterans’ health, and forensic psychology. Dr. Luxton previously served as a Research Health Scientist at the Naval Health Research Center in San Diego, CA, and Research Psychologist and Program Manager at the National Center for Telehealth and Technology (Defense Health Agency), Joint-Base Lewis McChord. He has authored numerous scientific and policy-level publications and five books, and he has served on numerous state-level and national workgroups and committees, including for the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He is a recipient of the American Psychological Association Division 19 (Military Psychology) Arthur W. Melton Award for Early Career Achievement. Dr. Luxton is a licensed clinical psychologist and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
