Kamil Yurtkan

PhD, Associate Professor in Computer Engineering Department at Cyprus International University

Kamil Yurtkan was born in Famagusta, Cyprus. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer engineering in the years of 2003 and 2005 respectively at Eastern Mediterranean University. He completed his PhD on Electrical and Electronic Engineering field with emphasis on signal and image processing, at Eastern Mediterranean University in 2013. 

His master thesis is about 3-Dimensional (3D) human face modeling. In his PhD study, he proposed a novel facial feature selection procedure for 3D facial expression recognition. 

He worked two years in Advanced Technologies Research and Development Institute of Eastern Mediterranean University as a research assistant. Then, he joined Cyprus International University as a lecturer in Computer Engineering Department since 2005. He is teaching computer programming, computer architecture, computer vision and artificial intelligence courses. His research interests include image processing, computer vision, pattern recognition and signal processing. 

He published a book on face modeling, several journal articles, and proceedings in the fields of computer vision and pattern recognition. He has supervised and graduated seven PhD students. He is serving as a referee and a guest editor in several scientific journals. His active research topics are facial expression analysis, texture identifier algorithms and medical imaging. 

Currently, he is an associate professor in Computer Engineering Department and Vice Dean of Faculty of Engineering at Cyprus International University.
